Do not attempt to DIY with gas.  Gas-related work is covered by strict regulations that say you must be competent to carry out this type of work.  Not only are you breaking the law you are also taking an enormous risk with your life and that of your family and neighbours.
Always use a CORGI registered installer for gas related work.
Regulations require landlords to have gas appliances they own in properties they let checked for safety, by a CORGI registered installer, once every 12 months.  If you live in rented accommodation you should ask your landlord for written proof - landlords are legally obliged to keep a record of the safety checks and to show it to you on request.
To confirm whether a business is currently registered, ask your installer to show you a registration certificate or if in any doubt ring CORGI to check on tel: 01256 372300
